We are thrilled to announce a significant milestone for the Franklin County Sports Club (FCSC) . On Tuesday, April 14, 2026, FCSC President and Executive Director Alex J. Moraes met with Nik Bushell , the Executive Director of the Missouri Youth Soccer Association (MYSA) , to officially accept a $8,000 grant dedicated to the growth of our local soccer community.

This generous funding, provided by MYSA, is a testament to our shared mission of promoting and fostering youth soccer across the state. As a non-profit dedicated to our players, these funds represent a vital investment in the quality of the soccer experience we provide to our families.

How the Funds Will Be Used

In accordance with the grant agreement , these funds are specifically earmarked to improve the quality of our club’s infrastructure and gear. Because FCSC operates through a diverse network of local partnerships, this $8,000 investment will be strategically applied to:

Soccer Equipment: Purchasing high-quality, portable goals, balls, and training gear that will be utilized at our various training sites, including St. Clair High School, Union Middle School , and the N-Sports Rec Center .
Facility Improvements: Supporting our infrastructure needs at Memorial Baptist Church to ensure our players have the best environment possible.
New Field Development: A portion of our capital resources will assist in our ongoing efforts to build a dedicated soccer field at the City of New Haven City Park , providing a future home for Franklin County athletes.

It’s one thing to dominate the local pitch, but it’s another to pack your bags, cross state lines, and test your mettle against the best in the region. Our FCSC U12 Girls have officially become our club’s premier travelers, marking their second major out-of-state milestone this past weekend.

A Journey of Growth

The road to success started back in Fall 2025 at the November Midwest Cup in Iowa. It was a weekend of "firsts" that set the stage for something even bigger. This past weekend, the team traveled to Murfreesboro, TN, for the prestigious Kings Hammer Bash in the Boro .

The transformation was clear. The girls didn't just show up; they competed with a renewed sense of confidence and tactical skill, outperforming their previous outing in Iowa. Facing off against high-caliber clubs from across the Midwest and South, our players proved that Franklin County talent can hold its own anywhere.

From Kick-Arounds to ID Sessions, here is how Franklin County Sports Club is preparing for our biggest seasonal year yet.

As we move into our second official year, Franklin County Sports Club (FCSC) is proud to be the premier home for competitive soccer across our region. After a massive debut season with 8 competitive teams and over 180 tryout participants, we are expanding our reach from the turf in Union to the grass in New Haven.

With the 2026/27 seasonal year approaching, we know parents have questions about age groups, recruitment rules, and the difference between our May "Spring Series" and June "Official Tryouts."

Here is your guide to navigating the path to an FCSC roster spot.

The "New" Age Group Matrix

The biggest change this year comes from US Youth Soccer and MYSA. Starting in August 2026, all age groups are shifting back to a "School Year" cycle (August 1st – July 31st). This means your child might be in a different "U" level than you expected. We have simplified this transition on our registration page with a clear chart to ensure every player is on the right field with their peers.

May: The FCSC Spring Series

Throughout the month of May, we host our Spring Series on Wednesdays (Union) and Fridays (New Haven). These sessions are the "heart" of our evaluation process. We divide these into two distinct categories:

Kick-Arounds (U8–U12): These are high-energy, low-pressure sessions. They are designed for younger players to get comfortable with our coaching staff, meet potential teammates, and show off their foundational skills in a fun environment.
ID Sessions (U13–High School): These are targeted identification sessions for our older competitive and premier rosters. For players like our High School Girls (U14–U18) , these sessions are critical for securing a spot for the Fall competitive season.

Why attend in May? It de-risks the process. It allows our coaches to get to know your player over several weeks rather than just one night in June.

June: Official Tryout Week

Starting Sunday, June 7th , we enter the official MYSA Tryout window. While much of our evaluation happens in May, June is where the "Official" rosters are finalized.

Per Eastern District rules, this is the week where registration becomes binding and roster spots are officially accepted. We encourage all players—returning and new—to be present during this week at Union Middle School to finalize their spot for the 26/27 season.

From 23 to 83: How FCSC MLS Go is Transforming Soccer in Franklin County

Last spring, Franklin County Sports Club sat on the sidelines with 23 pioneers. We had a vision: to elevate the game, provide a professional experience, and make soccer accessible to every kid in our region.

Last night, we closed registration for our inaugural MLS Go Spring 2026 Season . The result? 83 players.

We are floored. To the families driving in from Hermann, Washington, Union, and all the way from Sullivan—thank you. Your trust in our vision is what fuels us to keep growing the game at the Memorial Baptist Church Soccer Field in New Haven.

What Happens Now?

We aren't here to oversell; we’re here to provide a quality experience. Here is the roadmap for the next 7 days:

Coaches, Check In: If you registered a specific team or group of players, please email us immediately . We want to keep your squads together wherever possible!
The Schedule: Our team is hard at work. We expect to have the full season schedule posted by the end of next week (Week of March 23) , if not sooner.
Integrity First: In the spirit of transparency, if any specific age group doesn't have enough players to form a competitive division, we will contact those families within 24–48 hours to process a full refund (including service fees).

This past Saturday, February 21, that energy was felt even more deeply by the FCSC family as our High School Boys teams stepped onto the field—not just as fans, but as an integral part of the matchday squad.

Serving as ball dashers for the highly anticipated home opener against Charlotte FC , our players had a front-row seat to the professional game. From the pre-match warmups to the final whistle, they were right in the thick of the action, ensuring the game flowed smoothly while soaking up every second of the professional atmosphere.

A True Community Effort

What made this night truly special was the representation on the field. FCSC is now proud to field two High School Boys teams , boasting a roster of elite student-athletes gathered from across our neighboring districts. Seeing boys from Union, Washington, Pacific, Sullivan, and Borgia trading their school colors for the FCSC crest to work together on an MLS pitch was a testament to the strength of our local soccer community.

Our first-ever parade appearance brought all six competitive teams together for a festive night of lights, community, and club pride.

FCSC made its debut at the Downtown Washington Holiday Parade of Lights on Saturday night—and what an unforgettable way to kick off the holiday season. With more than 70 glowing floats, classic cars, marching groups, and the annual tree lighting with Santa, the parade filled Main Street with holiday magic.

We were proud to roll out two FCSC floats , one for our girls and one for our boys. Players and families from all six competitive teams came together to decorate, gather candy, dress up, and represent our club with pride. The energy, teamwork, and excitement from our athletes and parents made the night special.

Seeing our club community—players, coaches, and families—walking together through the downtown route was a reminder of what FCSC is all about: connection, pride, and creating moments that last.

A Historic Night for Franklin County Soccer: FCSC Hosts First High School Boys Tryouts

A milestone evening brings 35 players to the field and pushes FCSC toward eight competitive teams in our inaugural season.

On Monday, November 17, 2025, Franklin County Sports Club (FCSC) reached a defining moment in our young history. We hosted our first-ever High School Boys Tryouts , welcoming players born in 2012, 2011, and 2010 .

What happened on that field was nothing short of humbling.

With 37 players registered and 35 taking the field , the energy was electric from the first warmup to the final whistle. For our coaching staff and leadership team, it was a powerful reminder of why FCSC was created—to meet a long-standing need for quality, competitive soccer opportunities right here in Franklin County.

This tryout wasn’t just an evaluation event—it was proof that the demand has always been here. Our community has incredible talent, passion, and families eager for a club that believes in developing players the best way.

As we close out our inaugural tryout season, we are proud to share that 181 players registered to try out for FCSC across all age groups in 2025. That number represents far more than participation—it represents trust. It represents momentum. And it represents the beginning of something special.

With final rosters being assembled, we are within reach of fielding eight competitive FCSC teams in our first-ever season—an accomplishment that exceeds every expectation we had when this journey began.

FCSC U12 Girls Make History at the November Midwest Cup

A historic first for FCSC as our U12 Girls take the field—and our community spirit—on the road.

This past weekend, our FCSC U12 Girls made history — becoming the first team in club history to represent Franklin County and our club colors at an out-of-state tournament . The team traveled to the Tournament Guru November Midwest Cup & College Showcase 2025 , held at the incredible TBK Bank Sports Complex in Bettendorf, Iowa .

For our players, coaches, and families, this was far more than just soccer. It was a milestone moment — the beginning of a new era for our young club and a reminder of what sports can do: bring people together, ignite memories, and build confidence that lasts a lifetime.

A Weekend of Competition, Growth, and Connection

Across the weekend, our U12 girls battled hard, represented FCSC with pride, and continued to grow as athletes and teammates. But just as meaningful was everything that happened off the field.

Families bonded. Players laughed, decorated hotel doors, rocked fun tournament hairdos, traded goodie bags, and supported one another every step of the way. Between games, parents gathered to watch videos, share photos, and enjoy meals together — creating a true sense of community that will fuel our teams for years to come.

One of our U12 moms shared this heartfelt reflection:

“This being our family’s first experience going to an out-of-state tournament, we weren’t sure what to expect, but we were pleasantly surprised! It was such a great experience for us all! We had such a fun weekend hanging out, getting to know everyone better and watching the girls play some awesome soccer. Thank you to everyone for taking the time to make it special — the door decorations, fun hair-dos, goodie bags, taking and sharing photos and videos… it was much appreciated. I know our kiddos will remember this for years to come. We’re already looking forward to the next one!”

Stories like this are exactly why we do what we do.

This tournament marked a historic moment for FCSC — not just because it was our first out-of-state appearance , but because it showed what’s possible when a community rallies behind its young athletes.

Families, fun, and a little friendly competition — Halloween night, the FCSC way.

This Halloween, the Franklin County Sports Club family came together for a night filled with laughter, costumes, and the beautiful game. Our players traded their uniforms for capes, masks, and wigs — and this time, their toughest opponents weren’t other clubs… they were their parents!

A Night to Remember

The evening kicked off with friendly matches where kids faced off against moms, dads, and siblings — all in costume. From superheroes to witches (and a few unexpected referees), the energy on the field was electric.

Between the scrimmages, families shared candy, swapped costume compliments, and cheered each other on. It wasn’t about winning — it was about playing together and celebrating the fun, family-centered spirit that makes FCSC special.

Community, Connection, and Costumes

Events like this remind us that soccer is more than a game — it’s a way to bring people together. Our club is built on four core values: Community, Integrity, Excellence, and Respect , and this Halloween night captured them all.

Players showed sportsmanship and creativity, parents got in on the fun, and everyone left with smiles (and plenty of sweets).

Franklin County Sports Club (FCSC) is excited to announce High School Boys Tryouts for the upcoming 2026 Spring season! As our club continues to grow, we’re committed to providing local players with a high-quality, competitive soccer experience — right here in Franklin County.

Tryout Details

Dates: Monday, November 3 or Monday, November 17
Time: 7:45–8:45PM
Location: Union Middle School Turf Field
Eligible Birth Years: 2010, 2011, and 2012

Franklin County Sports Club (FCSC) is proud to announce a brand-new partnership with JB Soccer Academy , an elite player development program with strong ties to professional coaches from Germany. This exciting collaboration is designed to give FCSC players unique opportunities to learn, grow, and elevate their game to the next level.

Through this partnership, FCSC players will have access to exclusive summer camps led by JB Soccer Academy’s highly qualified coaching staff — many of whom have professional experience in German clubs such as Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. These camps will be hosted right here in Franklin County, making world-class training more accessible than ever for our athletes.

⚽ A Historic Day for Franklin County Soccer: FCSC Breaks Ground on Full-Size Field at New Haven City Park

On Friday, July 25 at 10:00 AM , Franklin County Soccer Club (FCSC) took a powerful step forward in its mission to grow the game and serve the community — by breaking ground on a full-size natural grass soccer field at New Haven City Park .

Over 60 attendees , including Mayor David Luecke , members of the New Haven City Board of Aldermen , the Park Board , business leaders, families, and youth players, came together for a morning of gratitude, purpose, and celebration.

Community, Faith, and Purpose at the Center

The ceremony began with opening remarks from Laura Kohnen , President of the New Haven Chamber of Commerce, who welcomed guests and introduced FCSC President and Executive Director Alex J. Moraes . Moraes reflected on the vision behind the project and the importance of giving back to the community that raised so many of us.

In a moment that set the tone for the entire project, the field and its future were prayerfully dedicated to the Lord . Pastor Daniel Cargill of Memorial Baptist Church and Pastor John Wagner of First Christian Church of Union each offered a powerful prayer, asking for blessing, safety, and long-term impact on the lives of local youth through sport.

A Ribbon Cut, A Dream in Motion

The ceremony continued with a formal ribbon cutting , where FCSC leaders, city officials, and community members stood side-by-side behind the ribbon at the dig site. With smiles and celebration, the ribbon was cut — a symbolic start to a project that will serve athletes and families for generations.

Moments later, shovels hit the dirt in the official groundbreaking photo , marking the beginning of field construction and the realization of a shared dream.

Earlier this spring, FCSC received official approval from the New Haven Park Board to take on a significant responsibility: to plan, build, and gift a high-quality soccer field to the City of New Haven and its residents . A new soccer program for Franklin County is charging ahead toward its first season this fall, and

organizers say they’re thrilled with the progress they’ve made so far.

The Franklin County Sports Club (FCSC) was officially founded in October, but President and

Executive Director Alex Moraes said the “team behind the team” came together a little over a

year ago. Since then, the club has hosted a number of camps and official tryouts for its fall

season, secured sponsorship from local businesses and received approval to build a full-size

practice field in New Haven.

Moraes said over 130 players have signed up to compete on six teams as part of the St. Louis

Youth Soccer Association (SLYSA) this fall. That number was more than four times what the

coaching staff was expecting. According to Moraes, the turnout is a testament to the desire in

Franklin County for high-level competitive soccer closer than St. Louis.

“It’s been a long time coming,” said Moraes. “Our club is targeting the county, not just one

municipality. And the whole county needed those opportunities, for sure.”

Moraes played soccer in his home country of Honduras and began coaching 11 years ago, he

said. He came to the U.S. to attend Lindenwood University, and in February he became a U.S.

citizen. It was through coaching soccer that he met Jason Schmelz , another longtime coach and

former Franklin County Sheriff’s deputy who lives in Marthasville. Schmelz now serves as the

secretary of the FCSC board, alongside Moraes and Vice President Scott Alberson .

The idea that united the three men was a simple one, according to Moraes: Why should families

have to leave Franklin County for competitive club soccer? St. Louis and St. Charles counties

each have dozens of clubs that compete in SLYSA, according to the league’s website. Over 20

more clubs from Illinois — some as far away as Springfield — also participate in the league.

Moraes said that after some market research, the FCSC board felt confident the idea could take

root in Franklin County.

“People started to buy in. People were like, ‘Oh my gosh, yeah, we don’t have a club like this in

this area,’” he said.

The logistics involved with building a soccer program from the ground up haven’t been easy,

according to the board.

“We pulled teeth to get field space, for sure. We worked on that for three months,” said Schmelz.

The club’s soccer camps so far have taken place at N-Sports Rec Center in Washington, and

recently Moraes shared that Memorial Baptist Church in New Haven agreed to let FCSC use

field space for a year.

But the board envisioned a more permanent space for their practices, and in April FCSC received

approval from the New Haven Park Board to build a practice field at the New Haven City Park.

The city will own the soccer field and lease it, according to the contract the two entities signed

June 12. FCSC continues to raise funds for the half-million dollar project, Moraes said, and

hopes to get started in the fall.

Union-based landscaping company Muddy Boots is one business donating services for the New

Haven field, saying on social media the field will be a “staple in our community and surrounding

areas for years to come.”

Moraes said a big part of his soccer philosophy is coaching development, as well as player

development. He’s recruited a number of coaches from Franklin County who played

competitively and encouraged them to further their coaching training.

Coach Diego Orozco, a Union High School graduate, said he’s “really, really pleased” with how

the club has been coming together. Orozco played soccer at East Central College and St. Louis

Community College. He said he’s been blown away by the enthusiasm from young players in

this area to become competitive against some of the region’s top tier soccer teams.

“I think Franklin County has a lot of talent to offer,” he said.

Another FCSC coach, St. Francis Borgia High School graduate Olivia Bays, recently returned

from Springfield, where she completed a soccer coaching course through the United States

Soccer Federation. Bays said she grew up playing club soccer in St. Louis and is looking forward

to the chance to “bring it closer to my hometown” of Union.

“We’re super excited to get the fall league started,” she said.

Moraes and Schmelz said the FCSC motto — “One club, one goal” — has guided the board over

the last year as they cleared the hurdles ahead of the fall season. They’ve secured sponsorships

from the Bank of Washington, Union’s Optima Dental Group and Auto Body Brothers, Dos Bros

Mexican Restaurant in New Haven and more. They’re still actively raising funds for the field and

hoping to grow the club after their inaugural season.

But with most of the administrative foundation laid, the FCSC directors said they’re primed and

ready to build soccer teams that represent the best of Franklin County.

“I’m ready to hit the pitch, to be honest with you. Ready to get my cleats on,” said Schmelz.

With aligned values and a mutual dedication to quality development, FCSC and SEMO Elite will work together to provide their players with additional games before and during the competitive seasons. These experiences aim to sharpen technical skills, promote teamwork, and prepare athletes for the next level of play.

Franklin County SC and Saint Charles FC Announce Strategic Club Partnership to Advance Player Development

Franklin County Sports Club (FCSC) and Saint Charles Football Club (STCFC) are proud to officially announce a new club partnership aimed at strengthening player development and providing more competitive opportunities for youth athletes across both organizations.

This strategic partnership will allow players from FCSC and SCFC to benefit from additional games throughout the year and increase access to sanctioned tournaments. By working together, both clubs are committed to fostering an environment where young athletes can grow, compete, and reach their full potential.

“Our mission at Franklin County SC has always been about creating the best possible environment for player development—not just through training, but by exposing our players to meaningful, high-quality competition,” said Alex Moraes , President and Executive Director of FCSC. “This partnership with STCFC is a big step forward in making that vision a reality, and we're excited about what’s ahead.”

Franklin County Sports Club (FCSC) is proud to announce a major milestone for our community and the future of youth soccer

On April 10, 2025 , the New Haven Park Board officially approved FCSC to lead the construction of a full-size soccer field at the city park, next to New Haven High School.

This is more than just a field — it’s a home for young athletes, a training ground for excellence, and a space where our community can gather, grow, and thrive.

The Project: 4 Phases of Building the Dream

The board agreed to move forward with FCSC leading the project in four key phases :

Groundbreaking / Field Construction – Begin leveling and building the field.
City Partnership – Enter into a lease and maintenance contract with the City of New Haven Park Board.
Power & Infrastructure – Manage unforeseen site conflicts and connect to the city’s electrical source.
A Permanent Home – Install 4 light posts, bring power to the field, and finalize the site as the official outdoor home of FCSC.

This field is not only for our athletes — it’s a field for families, fans, and the future.

Community Partnerships Making It Possible

This vision is being powered by people — generous professionals who stepped up not for profit, but for purpose.

We are honored to be joined by two incredible community partners:

Excelsior Engineering , led by John Nilges , donated their time and expertise to develop the topographic map and field design — a foundational step in building the field the right way.
Muddy Boots , led by Josh Barylski , has committed to building the field itself — offering heavy equipment , project leadership , and the boots-on-the-ground support to bring the dream into reality.
