Elevating Soccer in Franklin County: FCSC Hosts Successful Inaugural Coaching Workshop

Sam Bunn • August 4, 2026

Area high school, collegiate, club, and grassroots coaches unite at East Central College to advance coach education and player development.

At Franklin County Sports Club (FCSC), our vision extends far beyond our own sidelines. We believe that improving the game for our athletes starts by investing directly in the leaders on the pitch. This past Saturday, August 1st, that vision came to life as FCSC hosted its inaugural Coaching Education Workshop featuring Luis Swisher, Head Coach for STL City SC’s U18 MLS NEXT Academy and US Soccer 'A' License Coach Educator.

Hosted at East Central College, the event brought together 16 dedicated coaches from across the regional soccer landscape. The diverse group represented every tier of the game, including FCSC staff, the ECC Men’s Head Coach, both Borgia High School Varsity Boys and Girls Head Coaches, an FC Bayern Munich Academy coach, Pacific Soccer Association rec coaches, Goal Diggers independent team coaches, and a representative from CarShield FC.

The interactive 3-hour workshop paired modern classroom session methodology with a live pitch demonstration. A huge thank you goes out to our FCSC players from the U16 Girls, U14 Boys, and U12 Boys squads who stepped onto the field alongside student-athletes from the ECC Men’s team to serve as the live demonstration squad. Their effort and adaptability allowed Coach Swisher to showcase real-time, game-based exercises designed to maximize player touches and eliminate static line drills.

This workshop is just the beginning. Better players require better coaches, and FCSC remains committed to serving as the educational hub for coaches across Franklin County and beyond.
