History Made: FCSC Surge Crowned Champions at Mother’s Day Classic

Alex Moraes • May 12, 2026

The first tournament trophy in club history arrives in year one, proving local talent belongs at the top.

History was written on the pitch this weekend.

The FCSC U16 Surge Boys traveled to the MO Rush Mother’s Day Classic 2026 with a mission, and they returned as champions. Finishing the tournament undefeated with a 2-0-1 record, the Surge secured 1st place in the standings, marking a monumental milestone: the first tournament championship in FCSC club history.

A Rapid Rise to the Top

It is hard to believe that FCSC was only founded as a 501(c)3 nonprofit in October 2024. After beginning operations in February 2025, we kicked off our inaugural competitive season last Fall with 181 players and 8 competitive teams.

To reach the top of the podium in only our first year of competitive play is a staggering achievement. It sends a clear message to our community: Our youth do not need to pay thousands of dollars or commute to St. Louis to receive elite, quality training. The talent is here. The tools are here. The heart is here. We are proving that "homegrown" means "high-caliber."

"I'm so proud of these boys. They have made history and continue to show that our County is full of talent. We count with all the right tools here at home."
- Alex J. Moraes, Franklin County Sports Club (FCSC) President and Executive Director

Led by Excellence

This milestone wouldn't have been possible without the dedication and strategic vision of our coaching staff. Their commitment to developing these young men on and off the field is the foundation of our success:

  • Alex Moraes – Head Coach
  • Jason Schmelz – Assistant & Goalkeeper Coach
  • Boston Tinsley – Assistant Coach

The Championship Roster

This victory was a true team effort, fueled by the chemistry of our original Surge roster and the seamless integration of guest talent. We want to extend a special thank you to Coaches Jason Bradley and David Pope for recommending several FCSC U16 Rapids players to join forces with us for this event. Together, this group conquered the competition and secured a massive win for our club.
